Question Yoeman...

What exactly is a Yoeman? Is that even the way it is spelled?

I have added one to y ship for the Captain and I am wondering what the real world and trek-world definitions are.

    Thanks in advance.

Ok, the correct spelling is Yeoman, and it appears to me to be an aide to senior officers.

Anyone else wanna hazard a guess???

    Arrow

In modern militaries, the yeoman is basically a clerk. In Kirk's case, Rand was basically his secretary.

My take on yeoman is that they're an enlisted aide to the captain.

My Intrepid has the yeoman as a petty officer, 3rd class, who sort of hangs about from time to time and does stuff for the skipper.

They're the most-seen enlisted person on my ship apart from the "COB" - Chief of the Boat, a Senior Chief Petty Officer who essentially runs the enlisted personnel and reports to the First OFficer.

Hope that helps a little...*splutter, choke*

Yeoman, [n.], (pr. Yo-mann.) - gopher, sh!t-kicker, lackey, dogs-body; person who does the running-around for the Boss; personal assistant; secretary. If female, is best seen in short, tight outfits; if male, keep in loose-fitting clothing.

Let me guess... you got that from the Shatner's Encyclopedia, correct?

    Wink

Then you read the fine print under the definition:

...don't feed them after midnight, and keep them away from water...

In my campaign, the Captain's Yeoman is basically a secretary. This involves a lot more than taking dictation and making raktajeno; anyone who's been in the military for a while knows that you can't have a smooth-running unit if the commander's secretary is incompetent. If you can make friends with the Captain's Yeoman, you've got an inside track to the captain.

Perhaps an enlisted or even young aspiring officer that is put under a senior officers thumb for personal grooming!

...don't feed them after midnight, and keep them away from water...

And these apply to gremlins, too.
