While a very cool/flashy setup you've done. I can't help but find faults from a MapMaking perspective in the locations of various stars and sectors.

eg. From your maps perspective and using Galactic cordinates for real stars and the 'commonly acknowledged locations of Trek important stars' the following would be closer to the point.

And also taking in Sol relative position at say direct centre of Sector 001.

    Wolf 359: Sector 001 or 004
    Tellar: 001 or 008
    Sirus: 001, 005, 006
    Vulcan: 005 or 006
    Tau Ceti: 001

etc. Perhaps if you can clarify your stellar sources we can understand why you choose these locations other then as you said a simplified sector locator <paraphrased of course >

The base of my starchart is from this map

From Simon & Schuster Interactive STARTREK ENCYCLOPEDIA (CD version)

This map was first view from a Startrek TNG episode in a viewscreen just behind an Admiral (During a conversation).

Furthermore I used CHview a 3D space cartography software. I put the perspective TOP vision. I preserve (the most possible) the relative distance between each systems near SOL.

If you want, you can submit me a 2D map of your "'commonly acknowledged locations of Trek important stars" and then the modifications could be made.
(or in the worst case a compromise among both maps)

Okay that link explains that then.

The map was made simply as 'eye candy' and has very little grounding in real stellar locations among other things.

Chview is a good program on the other hand

    I LOVE IT!

Now, for the more stupid among us... Could you shoot out a copy of the user's manual? I don't really know what I am doing, and don't want to make a mistake!

I like the layout, and it looks sooooooooooo seeeeexy!

    ETA 4 days

The sector creation software is nearly done!
1 or 2 days of programmations, 1 day off and 1 day for testing...

Yes SIR SIG... But it was VER pleasant Eye Candy... So much so that the map used by Remec in conspiracy (where it first showed up)... Was once again used on the wall of Kiekos school on the promenade...

As you say eye candy with no bearing on reality... But surely the key here is how much bearing it had on the writers and episode planning???

After all, I know that I am no amateur astrologer, and find it very difficult to even vaguely get a clue as to what you talk about when you get technical... No really... If you want technically accurate information, I discovered long ago, that I should not get involved, I'll write whats imaginative and sounds good. But whenever I try to 'tech it' am usually told 'Cant be done...'

So for the 'dullards' in the audience a nice, non-technical, map which is easy to see and use... And better yet is also in 3D perspective... Is a good thing, and bypasses the parts of our (my) brain that tell me that those sector squares couldn't possibly be 1 light year a side... or that Bajor and Cardassia were never exected to be that way around???

Looking forward to the Design tool, Theko.
