A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

TokyoPop doing Star Trek Manga....hmmmm this I gotta see..as a huge manga fan I for one am looking forward to seeing it...maybe this is just the thing Trek needs.

Oh, great. So, I'll be expecting a lot of huge teardrop symbols on Mr. Spock everytime he gets into an argument with Dr. McCoy, whose angry head will enlarge, eventually filling out 3/4 of the boxed panel.
Or that every time Chekov says his one-liner "It's a Russian invention," everyone within hearing range will assume crash/falling position (upside down with legs sticking up the air).
Well, at least the girls' dress uniform will be shorter, makes for more upskirt shots, and Janice Rand (or some cute girl) in rope bondage. Not to mention the aliens' groping limbs/tentacles.
They should've gone with Stone Trek.
Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

I'm as stoked to see this as the next guy...
...though I have this image of a saucer-eyed Kathryn Janeway screaming into a stream of speedlines, "SHIII-NEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Oh, and by the way...

Well, it's TNG-era and later, so substitute Spock and Bones with Bashir and O'Brien, Chekov's "Russian invention" line with random Wesley Crusher saving-of-the-universe, and the ladies' uniforms...Originally posted by REG

C'mon, you know Terry Farrell looked damn fine in a miniskirt.
Actually, the "manga" Wesley is going to look a lot more younger, and with big and wild haircut. He'll team up with a young Min Mei who will sing to distract the Borg Collective. But eventually he'll fall in love with an older lady, Lieutenant Robin Liefler.
I can't wait 'till we see the E-D as a transformable mecha fortress.

OK folks first of all not all manga are alike; in fact manga in Japan actually tend to be much more diverse in style and content then US comics. As a voracius reader of manga and an anime fan, I can tell you that japanese animation and comics are very diverse in terms of style and content.
A good example of a seris Sci-fi anime (as opposed to the typical robot/giant starship type) is the "Crest/Banner of the Star" DVDs, a series based on a number of japanese sci-fi novels (the manga for "Crest" will be released in June) this is a series dealing with a war between normal humans and a genetically engineered race of space humans called the Abh. This is far more grim and serious than most anime series.
I am looking forward to thse anthologies....this may be just the sho in the arm STAR TREK needs IMHO.

Does anyone know if they are also going to be made in English
No tentacles. Just a bunch of space elf types dissing humans. It's not bad if you can manage to sit through the opening theme or catch it from the first episode. I keep trying, but I'm more interested in Last Exile right now.Originally posted by REG

The one with the tentacles...well, there are a lot. Overfield is the prime offender, though. Do not ever watch this alone, "O arrogant humanity..." It set off a trend that really soured anime for many folks who would have otherwise hopped on the anime bandwagon. But if giant laser penises are your thing, check it out...
